What's new for 2026?
Today's Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid combines the 2.5-liter Boxer engine, with two motors in a series-parallel hybrid. "Series-parallel" means the system can switch between the engine or the electric motor to power the wheels, depending on the driving situation. The engine and both electric motors work in tandem with an eCVT, rather than a traditional Continuously Variable Transmission or torque-converter automatic transmission. There's an X-mode for low-traction situations and a new EV drive mode.
Design
The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid will offer Cleveland, OH buyers two new exclusive exterior colors, to complement 18-inch dark gray alloy wheels, also exclusive to the Crosstrek Hybrid.
Performance
Subaru developed a new hybrid powertrain for the Crosstrek that will also power the upcoming Forester Hybrid. The gas engine is a 2.5-liter flat-four designed for the new hybrid system and it runs the more efficient Atkinson/Miller-cycle. Two electric motors are utilized, one of which drives the wheels and the other operates as an electric motor-generator. The entire system is part of a new transaxle with a front differential gear and an electronically controlled coupling. The combined output is 194 horsepower. Of course, all-wheel drive is standard, and the Crosstrek Hybrid has 8.7 inches of ground clearance.
Fuel economy is expected to be in the money-saving range of 35 MPG on highways around Elyria, OH. Since the new model Crosstrek Hybrid uses the same 16.6-gallon tank as the standard version, the hybrid should deliver an incredible 580 miles of driving range on a single fill-up.
Interior and technology
Since Subaru stores the Crosstrek Hybrid's battery under the rear cargo area, the raised floor reduces storage a little, dropping from 20.0 cubic feet to 18.6 cubic feet. With the seats folded, the difference is virtually non-existent, down only from 55 cubic feet to 54.7. Technology includes a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with infotainment courtesy of an 11.6-inch tablet-style screen. The system will run Subaru's Starlink® software with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ commectivity.
Safety features
All 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid SUVs are equipped with the newest version of Subaru's award-winning EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology. The new version of EyeSight runs more smoothly and under a wider range of conditions than before. EyeSight can identify cyclists and pedestrians at intersections sooner and, when needed, alert the driver and apply brakes to avoid collisions. Other active safety features include Reverse Automatic Braking and Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.
Trim levels and starting prices
The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid will keep things simple by offering Parma, OH buyers three trim levels:

- The Sport trim, starting at an estimated $37,000
- The Limited trim, starting at an estimated $40,000
